YMAX Pays an 8.7% Yield. Its Ten-Year Return Was Lower Than That

Australia's best known equity income ETF hands out a large, partly franked distribution every month. The total return tells a quieter story.

YMAX paid a distribution yield of 8.7% over the past year, or 10.3% once you count franking credits. Over the past decade it returned 6.5% a year in total. When a fund's yield runs higher than the return it actually earns, the gap is not free money. It is your own capital, paid back and labelled income.
